A Rather Scrappy Pincushion Roll

Good Morning!

It is a cold and rather snowy day here in Ohio. I have been keeping myself busy with trips to Joann's and spending a wonderful Saturday with family.

Yesterday I was cutting out a purse pattern (what else would I be doing???) I had 4 pincushions sitting on my ironing/cutting table which is nothing new as I hate to 'hunt' for pins. I want them right where I can get to them. But as much as I love my pincushions, I have to keep moving them out of the way. To say the least I was frustrated. So, I had a small brain storm. I took a piece of scrap fabric, pressed it and pressed about 1" of all the edges of the fabric toward the wrong side. I then layered it with 4 layers of batting and rolled it into a long tube. This can be tricky, and you may need another pair of hands. I had to ask hubby to help me. I then used rubberbands to keerp the tube closed and hand stitched the long end of the pincushion.

I used some Velcro circles I had on hand and placed them on the hand sewn closure. I then added the other side of the Velcro along the back side of my cutting table. Presto!!!! I had a stationary pincushion!!! You have to remember I made this on the fly and it isn't perfect or pretty. But it works for the time being.

Here are the pictures: (Click on them to make them bigger)

Another Chilly Day!

Good Morning Everyone!

I know it has been awhile since I last talked to you, but I'm back now with a vengeance!

A couple of weeks ago we had our first snow of winter. It was so pretty, but I have to admit, it was REALLY cold!! I can imagine that other areas of the country are even colder.

I have been spending some time on Etsy lately. I 'm still in my 'making handbags, totes and purses' mode and I have found some really great patterns in .pdf format on Etsy. I really love the instant download that many of the designers have now. AND, you have the choice of paying for your pattern with a credit card or PayPal. Some of the designers also have free patterns, which is really nice! Some of my favorite designers are Napkitten (I LUV her patterns!!), LYPatterns, OhKoey (she has a mini messenger bag which is great!), funnyRabbit, OhSewFabulous Quilts, iSew, and LittleCraftCottage. I found that one of the designers, iThinkSew is a talented lady but her customer service is not good. She stated in her description of the .pdf pattern I purchased she would send the pattern upon payment. My payment was sent but I didn't receive the pattern download until 6 days later. If you purchase from her, beware.

I am working on a wallet pouch for Christmas gifts I purchased on Etsy. It's been a great pattern and it's easy to follow. The designer is StudioCherie and she offers 3 different pouches to make in the one purchase. They are zippered pouches and she gives you ways to make them adorable.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! Happy Quilting!!

New Purse

Morning!!!

I made myself another Manhatten Bag. I think it turned out pretty. I need to add a flap to the the top of the purse so it will have a closure. I hate to admit it, but I forgot to add the magnetic closure when I began to put it together. So I will have to use a flap closure. I'll add a new picture when I have it done. :-) I added a pocket to the front side of the outside of the purse as the pattern didn't have one. I made this pocket a little larger than the other one for the Spring purse. (scroll down for the picture of that purse).

Another Hot and Steamy Day!!

Good Morning!!!

At 7:30am it was 80 degrees here in Ohio. Can you believe it??? Our yard needs to be mowed but I'm not going anywhere near a lawn mower!!! With this kind of heat we're staying inside with the air conditioning on!!!

I've been getting into my fabric stash to see what I'd like to make and I've started 2 projects and didn't like how they were turning out. So instead of ripping out seams, I began another project. I found in my stack of pdf patterns a Sweet Pea Totes pattern. It looks promising and I just finished ironing my fabric for it. And yes, I must be in the mood for totes/handbags/purses because that's what I find myself making.

I'm off to get myself some ice tea and to warm up my sewing machine!! lol...lol...as if it really needs to warm up! My sewing machine is on more than our TV!!!

New Purse

Morning!!

I finished a new purse pattern the other dsy and I wanted to share it with you. The pattern is from Pink Sand Beach Designs and is their Manhattan Bag. It really turned out well. The original pattern doesn't have a pocket on the outside of the bag, so I sdded my own. I curved the bottom of the pocket and matched it with the curve of the bag and I tried to match the wedge strips. I did add the cording also to the pocket design.

Another New Tote

Morning Everyone,

How are you all doing??? I hope your weather has been cool. We've had some rather nice days this past week, though it has rained a lot.

I made a new tote last month that I am using for my cross stitch. It turned out pretty good. I used some wooden purse handles that I've had around for a long time. Here is a quick picture of it.

My Latest Handbag/Tote

Afternoon Everyone,

I hope you all are staying cool. Here in Ohio we have a much cooler day then we've had this past week. At least today when we go outside, we can breathe!!! The humidity isn't as bad as it's been!!

I finished a handbag/tote that I started this past Thursday morning and finished a little while ago. It turned out really nice. I put a magnetic clasp in it too. Here is a couple of pictures of the front and back:

Thread Net

Good Morning!!!

I hope you all are doing well and staying cool. We've hit 93° weather here for the past week and I thank air conditioning everyday!!

I wanted to show you some Thread Net. I use it to keep my thread from unraveling. I found some on eBay for $25.00 (including shipping) 100 pieces and they are 6 inches in length.

As you can see, I cut them to size to the thread I want to cover. I use the Thread Net on all of my thread. I haven't tested it on cone sized thread, but I'm pretty sure they will fit to size.

Just cut them to the size you need and your thread stays nice and neat.

I saw some Thread Net on eBay 4 inches in size. You can choose which size you want!!!

Hope this keeps your thread stored nice!!!!

Finished Dresden Plate Blocks

Morning Everyone,

I have finished all of my dresden plates (30 in total) and have managed to get 2 blocks done. These a couple of pictures.

The pink ribbon Dresden Plate is for my sister Sue. She's the one who got me interested in quilting. She was such a talent!! I lost her to breast cancer and miss her every day.
